Umbrella NGO Body Launches Peace Ahead Of Election

The National Council of NGOs yesterday launched peace campaign in Nairobi ahead of the forthcoming General Election.
The chairman of the National Council of NGOs, Stephen Cheboi urged Kenyans to vote peacefully and avoid violence as witnessed in previous polls. He encouraged the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to stand for truth, transparency and accountability as it is the only institution that can save Kenyans from chaos.
He commended IEBC's preparation for the elections but requested IEBC chairman Wafula Chebukati to address the issue concerning arrival of election material as personal luggage. We don't want to witness ugly incidents of violence like in 2007," said Cheboi.
At the fete the clergy were represented by Archbishop Johnson Mwai, who urged Kenyans to keep their Faith and pray for the nation. Mwai urged the National security docket under interior Cabinet secretary Fred Matiangi to ensure peace during and after the polls. Women leaders Prisca Kiplangat told Kenyans that their lives are more important than an election.
And Felix Tuwei, a member of the National Council of NGOs, advised the youth to use their energy in productive work.
