The National Council of NGOs-Kenya participated in a Multi stakeholder coordination meeting Meeting on 2022 General Election Preparedness, Prevention,Response and Management of Violence against Women at an event that was held at Nairobi.
The meeting was convened by National Gender and Equality Commission in partnership with UN Women, International Centre for Research on Women and Wangu Kanja Foundation and attended by key stakeholders from both the State and Non-State Actors with keen focus on women and marginalised groups issues, the marginalized and minority groups, survivors of Gender-Based Violence and People with Disabilities especially were among the key stakeholders as the country heads towards the General Elections.
In the recent past, cases of Gender-based violence have characterised the electoral cycles and with only few days left to the General elections, it was necessary to look at the level of preparedness towards the August polls, assess the existing political environment and find possible ways of preventing the occurrence of election-related violence
Various interventions and synergies taken by the stakeholders were shared at length especially towards improving legitimacy and consensus in election processes by deploying Election Observers and Monitors across the Country.
